4/28 "If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium"

Polly said Siri had us at 17.83 miles today.  We left the Albergue on the outskirts of Estrella around 6:30.  It was only a kilometer or two to the Bodega Vineyards and wine fount.  I am not kidding.  Each day they add 100 liters of fresh wine that flows from a spigot in the wall. There is also a water spigot, but yeah, who's gonna bother with that.  Unfortunately, we got there too early...they hadn't added the day's 100 liters yet!  I managed to coerce a trickle out...a small sip.

Yesterday I had heard cuckoos in the woods in the morning. I heard them again this morning.  I had asked Polly and Francine after dinner if they had heard them...nope...but a Dutch fellow who was listening to the conversation told me cuckoos are terrible birds.  They lay their eggs in other birds' nests hoping the other birds will raise their young.  They may kick out an egg or two to make room for their own, or worse...kick out the young of the resident bird so that theirs will be cared for.  Naughty cuckoos.  Polly said she heard them today.  I took a short video to see if I could capture the sound...we'll see how well I did...

I took a couple of short breaks today to get some food in me and to rest my feet.  One of the stops was at a food truck after Villamayor de Monjardin.  The South Korean group from my night at Orrisson were there and Tung Pok and Junesaw both came over and we high-fived.  If I see them again, I want Junesaw to know that I have kept her 4-leaf clover and I thought I'd give them each a "business" card...just to see what might happen.

Guess what I found in the little bag that holds all of my tech stuff like chargers and cords?  My sterling shell earrings.  I'm thankful...and amazed.

I stopped in Los Arcos at a bakery and bought a homemade empanada and a cafe con leche.  The empanada was ham and cheese and was so large I had to eat it in two sittings.  No pictures...it was gone before I could remember to take a picture.

We are staying at Albergue Sansol and they have a lovely feature...a cold little pool for your feet. It's wonderful at the end of a long, hot day.  No new blisters to report...your prayers are being answered.  I won't post any pictures of the "recovering" blisters...I know some of you get queasy.

I have lost track of what day it is and if I don't look at my watch I can't tell you what time it is either.  A good thing, I think.
